How do I know what my dental insurance covers?
This seems like such a simple question, however, it is probably the most common question asked with regard to individual or group insurance, and the most difficult to answer. Dental practices do their best to obtain this information for you when asked but, please know that the insurance company representative always begins their conversation with “this is not a guarantee of benefits.” It is important for you to review your handbook and familiarize yourself with what is covered, excluded, or if a deductible or waiting period applies. Some plans pay a percentage of a service, such as 100% of preventative and others off a set of fee schedules. Some apply a deductible to all services, and some waive the deductible on preventative services. Again, know your plan prior to your appointment, and if you have questions, contact your insurance company or ask your dental office for assistance. At Advanced Dentistry By Design, Paula, our Insurance Coordinator, can answer your questions based on compiled information from the many companies we work with. We also offer a pre-authorization service so you have a more definite estimate of your out-of-pocket expense prior to treatment. Insurance and billing information offered by your dental office is a courtesy and does not guarantee coverage and/or payment for any service. If you have any questions about your insurance coverage or the cost of dental treatment, please don’t hesitate to call us at (775) 400-2533.
