What is a dental insurance deductible?
A deductible on a dental policy is the fee you agree to pay annually to receive dental services which is usually waived on preventative services. The deductible normally runs between $50 and $100 per plan year. The deductible is applied by the carrier for three reasons; a means to set premiums (higher deductible plans usually have lower premiums), to act as a deterrent for frivolous claims, and a way to classify policies (policies with high levels of coverage have low deductibles). Refer to your plan booklet so you are not surprised by your deductible and/or what services it is applied to. Most dental offices will ask for your deductible along with your estimated out of pocket for services at your first visit of the plan year. Still unsure?
